John J. Malzone, CFP® – John has been in the financial services industry for over 40 years. He started with Thompson McKinnon in 1983 as a broker. John was quickly promoted to sales manager and then Branch Manager at the age of 35. He always liked what he did but, initially, did not like the way it was done on Wall Street. In 1992, John discovered a better way of working with clients as a fee-only fiduciary, thereby avoiding the conflicts of interest so common among commissioned brokers. Since there were no major firms offering this type of un-conflicted service at the time, John started his own SEC Registered Advisory firm in 1993. John earned his Certified Financial Planner® credentials in October 1994. After running his own successful and growing Investment Advisory business in Bucks County PA for 24 years, John decided it was time to leverage his business by aligning himself with a team of like-minded professionals to expand and enhance services to clients. After 7 years of searching for the right business affiliation, John was introduced to Main Street Financial Solutions by TD Ameritrade in 2016 and joined our firm in January of 2017.

John was born and raised in Far Rockaway and Long Island. He earned his BS in Education from The State University of New York at Oswego in 1978. Formally trained as a school teacher, John taught middle school Industrial Arts in Houston, Texas. Woodworking, Drafting, Graphic Arts, Photography, and Electronics are subjects he enjoyed teaching. In 1979, his students at the Spring Branch School District in Houston earned first place in a district-wide competition.

John enjoys many hobbies that include cooking, baking (mostly artisan bread and pizza), and his monthly poker games with his friends. John had enjoyed motorcycling for many years, traveling to remote areas of the USA.  Lately, though, he finds himself doing less motorcycling and more trail riding to the local beaches on his collection of electric and classic beach bikes.  In 2017, at the suggestion of a comedian, and on a whim, John started doing stand-up comedy and occasionally performs at local clubs in the New York area. He’s so funny that he decided to keep his day job. John lives on Long Island but visits the Newtown office regularly to meet with clients and his team.
